• 1^st Category: National School Video Competition

Organized by the English Department in the College of Arts & Sciences at Rafik Hariri University

The National school Video Competition is the right venue to improve yourself. RHU is offering the chance for young high school students in grades 11 and 12 to produce a 3-5 minute video to build awareness about this year theme and sub-themes:

• Theme: Youth Empowerment
  • Sub-Themes: Youth Entrepreneurship
  • Youth and Volunteerism for a Better Community
  • Youth and Self-development “Why settle for living not a life?”
  • Educational Reformation to Empower Future Generations

To participate in this competition, please follow the guidelines below:

• Guidelines:
• Interested students must complete the form, have it stamped by their school, and send it to the RHU College of Arts & Sciences.
• The competition is open to students in grades 11 and 12. A maximum of four students per school may participate. Interested schools should send the names of participating students to the address below before Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
• Videos must be between 3 - 5 minutes.
• One person is responsible for the video and eligible for the award.
• All elements of the video must be produced on a smart phone or a tablet, no professional equipment should be used.
• Schools should send the videos of all participants together between Friday, March 6, and Tuesday March 10, 2020

• Criteria:
• Round One: all Videos will be screened by a committee from RHU by Friday, March 13, 2020.
• Round Two: the best 5 videos will be evaluated by a committee from outside RHU. Judges will deliberate and announce the first three winners on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

• Deadline:

The 2019- 2020 National School Essay Writing Competition is organized in an effort to harness the passion, energy and imagination of the Lebanese Secondary School Students. It also aims at inspiring the youth to think about how everyone can make a difference.

To participate in this competition, please follow the guidelines below:

• Guidelines:
• Interested students must complete the form, have it stamped by their school, and send it to RHU College of Arts & Sciences.
• The competition is open to students in grades 11 and 12. A maximum of four students from one school may participate. Interested schools should send the names of participating students to the address below by Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
• The nominated students will sit for the essay competition on either Friday, February 28 or March 6, 2020. The college will inform schools on which date their nominated students will sit for the essay.
• Students should arrive at RHU campus at 8:30 a.m. on the designate date. The competition will last for 2 hours from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m.
• Essays must be 800 - 1000 words maximum in English or Arabic. Essays have to be typed, Times New Roman, Font size 12, and Double Spaced.
• Essays must have a cover page indicating
• Theme of the essay (i.e. Youth Entrepreneurship, Youth and Volunteerism for Better Community, Youth and Self-development “Why settle for living not a life?”, or Educational Reformation to Empower Future Generations)
• Essay Title
• Author’s Name
• Name and Address of School
• Phone Number and E-mail Address
• Author’s grade level

• Criteria:

• All the essays will be corrected by a committee from RHU. Judges will deliberate and announce the first three winners in English and in Arabic on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

• 3^rd Category: National Public Speaking School Competition

Organized by the English Department in the College of Arts & Sciences and Public Speaking Club at Rafik Hariri University

If you are interested in speaking and willing to take the stage, then the National Public Speaking School Competition is your right choice. RHU is opening its stage for young high school students in grades 11 and 12 to present a 4 – 5 minute persuasive speech about one of the themes listed below. A maximum of four students from each school can participate in the competition.

• Guidelines:
  • Interested students must complete the form, have it stamped by their school, and send it to RHU College of Arts & Sciences.
  • The competition is open to students in grades 11 and 12. A maximum of four students per school may participate. Interested schools should send the names of participating students to the address below by Wednesday, February 12, 2020.
  • Students are expected to email their written speeches between March 1 and 6 to be checked for authenticity/originality. Plagiarized speeches will be disqualified from participating.

• Conduct of Rounds:

1. Preliminary Rounds:

• Preliminary Rounds will take place on two days March 11 and 12. Students will be divided into groups based on their schools (students from the same school will be presenting together on the same day). The date of the presentations will be e-mailed to both students and their schools by March 1^st.
• Contestants should report to RHU Theater by 9:00 a.m. to sign in at the registration table. The competition will begin promptly at 9:30 a.m. School representatives accompanying contestants are welcome to sit in the audience.
• The order of the contestants will be announced prior to each round. Contestants will be seated in the front rows of the theater.
• Winners of Round One will be announced on the Facebook page and competition website on Monday, March 16, 2020.

2. Final Round:

• The Top 10 winners of the Preliminary Rounds will proceed to the Final Round that will take place on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at RHU. Competitors will present their speeches in front of a large audience and celebrity The panel will choose the top 3. Note that the dress code for this round is formal.
• All the finalists will also compete for the following categories: Bright smile, Best Stage presence, Most Charismatic, Best Body Language, Best Voice Clarity, and Most Confident Speaker. The audience will also choose their favorite speaker who will be given the Audience Award for Best Speaker.
• Contestants should report to RHU Theater by 9:30 a.m. The event will start promptly at 10:30 a.m. In addition to invitations for the school representatives, each contestant may request up to 10 invitations for family and friends to attend the competition.

Do you have an idea to empower the Lebanese youth? RHU is offering the chance for young high school students (in grades 11 and 12) to come up with youth empowerment ideas.

• Theme: Youth Empowerment
  • Sub-Themes: Youth Entrepreneurship
  • Youth and Volunteerism for a Better Community
  • Youth and Self-development “Why settle for living not a life?”
  • Educational Reformation to Empower Future Generations

To participate in this competition, please follow the guidelines below:

• Guidelines:
  • The competition is open to students in grades 11 and 12. A maximum of five students in each group. One group per school may participate.
• Groups must complete the form online, have it stamped by their school and send it to RHU College of Arts & Sciences.
• Schools should send the project of all participants together between Friday, March 6, and Tuesday March 10, 2020
• Description of the project:

Each participating group should identify a problem related to the theme or the sub-themes and suggest a solution to this problem. Students provide a detailed plan of how their suggested solution best solves the identified problem. Their project should be persuasive enough to convince the jury of their suggested idea. Interested students will receive a two-hour workshop prior to the competition that is likely to help them develop their projects and hence meet the requirements of the competition. The date of the workshop will be emailed to the interested groups after nominations end. Groups will defend their projects in round one. They are expected to use a PowerPoint in presenting their projects in round one.    

• Criteria:
• Round One: all projects will be defended on Friday, March 20, 2020.
• Final Round: the best 5 projects will be evaluated by a committee outside RHU. Judges will deliberate and announce the first three groups on Thursday, March 26, 2020.

• Deadline:
