Dr. Chaaban is a professor in the Mechanical & Mechatronics Engineering Department. He received BS (1980), and MS (1982) degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the “Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal”, Canada, and Ph.D (1985) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo, Canada.
Dr. Chaaban’s research is focused on High Pressure Vessel Design and Fatigue & Fracture Mechanics. He has published a large number of papers in journals such as “ASME Transactions - Journal of Pressure Vessel Technology”, “Physica B”, “CSME Transactions”, and various international conferences proceedings. A number of Master and Ph.D. students have graduated under his supervision during the time he was full time professor at the Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal, Canada. Dr. Chaaban has been an active member of the ASME organization, in technical sub-committees related to Codes & Standards development. He has developed numerous related technical sessions in conferences, organized by the PVP division of ASME and CSME.
His teaching involvement at the University (Canada & Lebanon): Mechanical Design, Fatigue & Fracture Mechanics, Advanced Mechanics of Materials, Pressure Vessel & Piping Design, Analysis & Applications, and Manufacturing Processes.
Dr. Chaaban also has an extended industrial experience in down-stream petroleum technology. He spent 14 years as engineering technical trainer, Specialist and Advisor at Saudi Aramco Mobil Refinery Company (SAMREF) in Saudi Arabia.
Besides his technical work, Dr. Chaaban has a particular interest in Arts (painting and music) and has participated in several organized activities in these areas.
