On February 22, 2024, the ASCE RHU Student Chapter in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department hosted Engineer Shawki Srour, the Head of the Solid Waste Management Unit at Dar Al Hadasah, for a seminar on Solid Waste Management at 12:00 p.m. in the MEA Conference Hall. The purpose of this seminar was to raise students' awareness of one of the major issues in Lebanon, which is Solid Waste Management.
During the seminar, Eng. Srour shared his knowledge in the field of Solid Waste Management with the students. His presentation focused on providing adequate planning and consideration to manage Solid Waste. He also presented the students with information about the different system components ranging from storing, transferring, treatment, and disposal.
The complex issue of Solid Waste management depends on various factors such as demographics and financial economics. Various solutions could be implemented to reduce solid waste generation. However, it is important to note that there are no one-size-fits-all solutions.
At the end of the seminar, the RHU ASCE presented Engineer Srour with a plaque as a token of appreciation for sharing his knowledge and experience in solid waste management with RHU students.
