Meet RHU graduate Dr. Nazek El-Atab, an Electrical and Computer Engineering Assistant Professor at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in Saudi Arabia. She's leading the change at the Smart Advanced Memory Devices and Applications lab (SAMA), where her research delves into the exciting world of smart memory and electronic devices. With a B.Sc. in Computer and Communications Engineering from RHU, an M.Sc. in Microsystems Engineering and a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Engineering from MASDAR Institute of Science and Technology, Nazek El-Atab has garnered multiple awards for her groundbreaking work, setting a high standard for academic excellence.
To list a few, Nazek El-Atab has received the 2015 For Women in Science Middle East Fellowship by L’Oreal-UNESCO, the 2017 International Rising Talents Award by L’Oreal-UNESCO, and was portrayed among the 2019 “Remarkable Women in Technology” by UNESCO. She was also selected to participate in the 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, was selected among the 2020 UC Berkeley EECS Rising Stars, among the 10 Innovators under 35 by MIT Technology Review Arabia in 2020, as a “NEOM Changemaker” in 2021, and among the 2024 V60 Women in Sustainability by BCG.
Her active involvement in professional and editorial activities creates waves in the engineering world, inspiring us all with her achievements. More specifically, she is a Senior IEEE Member and currently serves as the Chair of the Western Saudi Arabia IEEE Electron Device Society Chapter. She is an IEEE Electron Devices Society Distinguished Lecturer, an Associate Editor-in-Chief at Applied Nanoscience (Springer Nature) and Associate Editor of the IEEE TED, Nano Select by Wiley and Microelectronics Engineering by Elsevier journals. She has published over 100 papers in international peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings, authored 2 book chapters, 2 books and holds 7 filed U.S. patents.
Her research has been extensively covered in various international publications, including IEEE Spectrum, National Geographic, BBC, MIT Technology Review, and Sky News Arabia.
