Message from RHU Interim President to Faculty Members on the Continuity of Education

    Dear Faculty Members,

I hope this message finds you well. As we face various challenges and uncertainties, it is vital that we maintain our commitment to the continuity of learning. Our students look to us for guidance and support, and your dedication to their education is greatly appreciated.

In these difficult situations, I want to highlight a few key principles to ensure the seamless continuation of learning:

    1. Flexibility: Please be understanding of the challenges our students may be encountering, whether they are facing attendance issues, technical difficulties, or other unforeseen obstacles. It is important to offer flexibility in attendance policies and deadlines when appropriate.
    2. Clear Communication: Open and transparent communication is essential. Keep your students informed about any changes to the course structure and the methods they should use to access course materials and communicate with you.
    3. Adapting Syllabi: Consider adapting your course syllabi while giving priority to covering essential chapters and ensuring the achievement of student learning.
    4. Technology Preparedness: As we adapt to changing circumstances, it is crucial to be well-versed in the use of our digital learning platforms. Ensure that your students are also familiar with these tools, as they may play a significant role in maintaining academic continuity.
    5. Student Support: Be attentive to the emotional and psychological well-being of our students. Understand that these difficult situations can take a toll, and guide students to the appropriate resources and support services.
    6. Travelling Students: Students who are compelled to travel must submit a written request to the Student Affairs Office which assesses the case and then informs the Registrar's Office which then emails the advisor, instructors, and the student. Despite the physical distance, it is crucial that we maintain the continuity of their learning and provide the support they need.
    7. Professional Development: If you are not already experienced in online or blended learning, consider participating in training sessions and professional development opportunities that will enhance your digital teaching skills.
    8. Departmental Collaboration: Collaborate with your colleagues and department heads to share best practices and collectively address any unique challenges that may arise.
    9. Assessment Adaptation: Modify assessment methods as needed, such as open-book exams, projects, or papers, or oral assessments which may be more suitable during challenging times when traditional in-person exams may not be feasible.
    10. Contingency Planning: To date, MEHE has not issued any circular allowing universities to switch to online instruction. If the need arises for remote or online instruction, please strive for a high-quality educational experience. Engage students, encourage interaction, and provide clear guidelines for participation.

Our commitment to the continuity of learning is unwavering. By working together, we can provide our students with the educational support they need to succeed, regardless of the circumstances. Your dedication and adaptability are greatly valued, and I want to express my gratitude for your ongoing efforts to uphold our educational mission.

If you have any questions or need additional support, please don't hesitate to reach out to your department head, the provost's office, or the university's educational technology resources. Together, we will overcome these challenges and continue to provide the best education possible.

Thank you for your commitment to our students and the pursuit of knowledge.

    Take Care,

    Hiam Loutfi

    Interim President
