The RHU Office of the President, in collaboration with the Lebanese Army, proudly hosted an inspiring talk titled "Strength in Uniform: Women Empowering Women." The event featured distinguished speakers from the Lebanese Army —Captain Nada Shawwa, Lieutenant Mary Kheir, and Captain Antoine Hadshiti—who shared their firsthand experiences as military leaders, breaking gender barriers and advocating for the empowerment of women across all sectors.
The RHU President delivered a compelling address, emphasizing the historical role of women in warfare—defending cities, advising leaders, and sustaining armies. He honored the remarkable female military leaders present, acknowledging their unwavering dedication to both service and family.
Captains Shawwa and Kheir outlined women's integration into the LAF, from administrative roles in 1989 to combat units in 2017. A milestone came in 2020 with the first female cadets entering the Military Academy, graduating in 2022 and serving across various divisions, including Infantry, Engineering, Navy, and Air Force. All distinguished speakers emphasized efforts to enhance women's representation in the LAF, integrate gender perspectives in planning, strengthen collaborations, and conduct research to support gender inclusion.
The event highlighted RHU’s commitment to gender equality and honoring women in leadership. "Strength in Uniform" reminded us that empowering women in the military strengthens the forces that protect and serve.
The event concluded with a dynamic Q&A session, fostering insightful discussions and engagement.
