Time at Rafik Hariri University is that of constant learning and transformation, where students are guided by distinguished professors who introduce community forethought as a general education component and participate in national events in attempt to ignite change in the world around us.
RHU is proud of Design Department faculty member, Ms. Dahlia Khodur, who participated in the Beirut Design Week entitled “What is the City but the People?” hosted by JoeFish on June 28, 2018 in Mar Mikhael. Where artists and designers from all disciplines were called upon “to share their experience in the city, both good and bad, inequalities they’ve faced, social justices they’ve witnessed or are being subjected to, or the happy moments one can only come across in a cosmopolitan city,” Ms. Khodur presented an illustration that shed light on the social and economic problems that are happening in Lebanon.
“The crucial times Lebanon is passing through is enough for events like this to shed light upon, and the best way to attain that is through the showcase of young designers coming together in one corner of Beirut,” says Ms. Khodur. “The artwork on display,” she added “did not only carry a message from the perceptive mind of the artist, but it also offered a new feast to the eyes of the public attendees, highlighting some new trends that are appearing nowadays in our design world, from 3D designed polygons to well inked lines.”
JoeFish offices were transformed into an exhibition space, dedicated to showcasing the interpretations shared by the Lebanese design community and the open public, in an effort to keep the conversation going around the causes that impact our collective lives. There was only one rule; the illustrations had to be portrayed through the eyes of “Joe”, their mascot.
A number of collaborating people/agencies participated including: Razan Wehbi, Marianne Kosseifi, Sasha Haddad, Jamie Melki, Romy Matar, Anthony Makhlouf, Walid Shehab, Ahmad Daher, Nancy Kouta, Christian Sleiman, Tony Maalouf, Melinda Mouzannar, Jad Abou Zeki, SkinSells.
