The RHU ASCE Student Chapter hosted a seminar on Engineering Construction Problems due to earthquakes on October 26, 2023. RHU welcomed Lieutenant Colonel Milad Khatib as the honored guest speaker. The Civil engineering students and faculty members attended the event.
The aim of the seminar was to introduce students to the major factors that affect buildings during an earthquake. Lt. Col. Khatib shared his insights and expertise on the real estate challenges posed by earthquakes, and he suggested design ideas to minimize earthquake damage or resist it. He showed the audience real cases of buildings that collapsed during the recent catastrophic earthquake in Turkey.
Drawing from his extensive background in structural and geotechnical engineering, Lt. Col. Khatib emphasized that the impact of an earthquake can be resisted with proper design and precautionary measures.
