The College of Sciences and Information Systems – Design Department in collaboration with the College of Arts hosted four guest speakers from the NGO Fighters for Peace on Tuesday, February 20th, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the MEA theater. In a country that had experienced a futile destructive civil war, this seminar came to raise awareness and endow youth with wisdom and understanding to prevent them from being dragged into a pointless civil war.
Mr. Ziad Saab, Fighters for Peace President, Ms. Alia Mekdad, Ms. Salwa Saad and Mr. Assaad El Chaftari introduced themselves, their lives, their backgrounds and their journeys and experiences during the civil war. They highlighted the transformation that occurred in their lives that strongly united them to spread their message of peace to the new generation who encounter constant turmoil.
The speakers encouraged the audience to “choose peace over killing, dialogue over fighting and love over hatred. Accept others and build your country and your future, as civil war is nothing but a lose-lose state that destroys humanity.”
Fighters for Peace is the only non-governmental organization in Lebanon that unites former fighters in the civil war, from different political, religious and social backgrounds to spread awareness about the repercussions and ramifications of civil war.
