At a university, the waste produced is expected to be quite different from that for a residentially dominated setting. It is likely that there will be larger fractions of materials such as paper. A part of this work will be related to estimating the RHU waste streams both by quantity and composition.
The first step, setting aside for now the need to reduce and re-use materials, it is necessity to separate the produced waste. Clearly the closer the separation occurs to the source, the better.
As far as composting is concerned, organic wastes are the target. The following are the major sources of organic waste at RHU:
While the above are major sources of organics, there will be organics to be collected from other locations where separation bins are located around campus.
